Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend December 23, 2005 Sports Letters It's not all about the Owls In response to the Oregon Tech fan who feels left out by Southern Oregon University ticket policy for the upcoming basketball games on Jan. 7: We have more concerns than just Owl fans. Most ticket policies for a college athletic event would include the following criteria: 1) Take care of your own students first (it is their fees that provide the most support for athletics). 2) Take care of your hometown supporters. 3) Take care of your players’ families. 4) Provide a home-court advantage. Advertisement 5) Take care of the opponents. The original request from the OIT athletic administration was for 400 tickets, or roughly 30 percent of the total house. (Would OIT give us 30 percent, or 660 tickets, for our game there?) Add to that total the number of walk-up buyers the night of the games and you have the potential for an "Owl" fan base of around half the capacity. This fails to meet criteria No. 4. The 150 tickets (over 12 percent of capacity) made available to OIT compares favorably to what most agreements allow. To put it into perspective, the University of Oregon seats 9,800 and gives opponents 100 tickets, or 1 percent of the total. My advice to Owl fans who feel shut out: Go to OIT on Feb. 4 and heckle me all you want. It is your right. And by the way, the nice restaurant you usually go to is closed and being converted into a bank.
