Anderson's toss in the shot put highlights EP's matchup with South South Medford steamrolled Eagle Point on both ends of a dual track and field meet Thursday at Newland Track, but the top mark of the day belonged to Eagle Point's Katie Anderson. Anderson, a senior, launched a lifetime best throw of 40 feet, 81/2 inches in the shot put. Her winning putt came on her last throw as she surpassed South Medford's Hope Berkey, who managed 38-11. "That was a clutch throw," Eagle Point coach Mike Johnston said. "She (Anderson) got it done at crunch time." Anderson and Berkey now have the top two throws in the Southern Oregon Conference. Hope Berkey launched a personal best in the discus with a throw of 118-2 but also finished second in that event to the Eagles' Alisa Lee (125-10). Heather Frigaard won the 100-meter hurdles and ran legs on both relays to fuel the Panther girls to an 85-63 victory. In the boys meet, Jonathan Klenke pulled off his customary quadruple, winning the 100, 200 and lending a hand to both relay victories as the Panthers cruised to a 104-41 win.
