George Johnson Iaeger Jr. Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Mar. 25, 2016 at 2:00 AM Posted Mar. 25, 2016 at 2:00 AM » Social News In Loving Memory Today marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of George Iaeger, and our hearts are yet filled with his memory. George passed away March 25, 2015 in Jacksonville, Ore. He was born March 27, 1931 in Snohomish, Wash. to George J. Iaeger Sr. and Maye Laura Arrowood, the youngest of 11 children. George attended school in Washington, Oregon, and California, graduating in 1950 from South Fork High School in Miranda, Calif. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until his retirement in 1977. His service record included time spent in the Korean Conflict as well as Vietnam. He retired as Master Chief Hull Technician. George married Virginia Merise Dickson Carey May 4, 1962 in El Centro, Calif. and became “Dad” to her two children, Michael and Christina Carey. George and Merise were blessed with the arrival of more children, Virginia Maye in March of 1963, Lee Ann in November of 1964, and Kathleen Irene in August of 1967. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he and his family moved to Jacksonville, Ore. where he worked for the next 18 years for Medford Fabrication in White City, retiring in 1996. George was a multi-faceted man who was an avid fisherman, loved camping, and enjoyed painting in oils. He loved his family and friends, and had a great sense of humor. After a long battle with COPD, George passed away peacefully in his sleep, just two days shy of his 84th birthday. George is survived by his beloved wife, Merise; his children, Mike Carey (Patricia), Christina Russell (Mike), Ginger Allen (Dennis), Lee Ann Iaeger, and Kathleen Shroy (Randy); his sisters, Hazel Skutvik and Lois Hill; and several much-loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of George’s life will be held in Washington, at the end of June 2016.
