CRIME Siskiyou County murder suspect will return to California By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Mar. 3, 2015 @ 3:58 pm Updated Mar 3, 2015 at 5:26 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Mar. 3, 2015 @ 3:58 pm Updated Mar 3, 2015 at 5:26 PM » RELATED CONTENT • California homicide leads to arrest in Talent » Social News p bs:newslist StartDate="20121121" EndDate="p bs:datecalc Months="3"" DateSort="1" UseObjects="1" ObjectClass="81" Taxonomywords="2325,665" ExactTaxonomyMatch="1" Image="1" Count="4" --> A man who was arrested in Talent Monday in connection with a homicide in Siskiyou County, Calif., now awaits extradition back to California. Mathew Raye Baker, 27, is suspected of killing 60-year-old Dale Bowen at his home in the 400 block of Birch Lane, an unincorporated area northwest of Mount Shasta. He was arrested by Talent police about six hours after Bowen's body was discovered. Baker remained in the Jackson County Jail Tuesday on a California fugitive warrant, records showed. Investigators haven't pinned down the motive and circumstances leading to the death of Bowen, who was also known as Angel Feather, the Mount Shasta News reported . The paper reported that the two men knew each other and Baker had spent time in the area. "We're still investigating that part of it," said Allison Giannini, sheriff's department public information officer. "They did seem to know each other." Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey told the Mount Shasta News that Bowen's neighbors reported hearing an argument at his home Monday morning, and someone found him dead inside. Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office received a call saying someone might have been killed in the 400 block of Birch Lane. Deputies responded and found Bowen dead from a violent attack. The California Highway Patrol assisted in securing the scene. The initial investigation pointed to Baker as a person of interest. The agency put out word to law enforcement in California, Oregon and Idaho. Police later learned Baker had abandoned a silver Kia Soul he had rented in Sacramento, boarded a bus in Weed, Calif., and got off in Medford. He was arrested without incident in Talent just before 1 p.m. after a caller reported he had stood in the doorway of a Gibson Street home before leaving without a word.
