Jan. 29, 1921 Continued CHILD FEEDING FUND CAMPAIGN IS LAUNCHED Thursday, Friday, Saturday of Coming Week Selected to Put Jackson County’s Quota of $6,000 Over Top Although Jackson County is the last but one of the counties of the state to organize to secure its quota of $6,000 for the $33,000,000 European Relief Fund, it is very evident that with the strong organization perfected, the county will go over the top next Thursday, Friday and Saturday, which is the time set for the campaign. The county chairman, Rev. J. Randolph Sasnett, has announced the names of district chairmen ... The district chairmen will call upon citizens in their districts to assist them. In Medford a well-directed campaign will be undertaken as there will be in Ashland, as it is in these two districts that the responsibility of raising the largest amount of the money depends. There has been some money collected which will be credited to the total to be raised and the district from which this came will receive credit, therefore it will be necessary for an intensive campaign to secure the balance. No Expenses Deducted Every dollar subscribed toward the fund will go for the relief of the children of Central Europe. None of the money is to be used for administration expenses. According to Herbert Hoover, one meal a day of bread and soup, together with some clothing at a total cost of ten dollars will keep a child alive until next harvest. Unlike previous campaigns where residents have been notified as to what they were expected to give, the amount to be given will be left to the dictates of their own conscience. It’s up to Jackson County to save the lives of 600 children, and if we fail to raise the necessary amount through indifference on the part of the citizens of the county, then the death of some of these children must be directly charged to selfishness as there are surely enough citizens in the county with ample means who would be willing to see that every one of the 600 children are at least given a chance for their life.
