The woman told police she did not know the man who physically attacked her "in a sexual manner" before she was able to break away and escape, sheriff's Sgt. Eric Fox said. The victim was able to reach her vehicle, then drove down Highway 62 to an area where she could get cell service and call police, the sheriff's department reported. Deputies with a K-9 unit searched the area but did not locate the suspect, police said. Fox said stranger-to-stranger attacks like this are extremely rare in Jackson County. "Hopefully we will get this person before we have another victim," Fox said. The attacker was described as a white male in his 40s, about 6 feet tall with a thin build. He had brown hair, a beard and tattoos covering his left arm. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, no shirt and no shoes. The victim said he had the scent of alcohol on his breath. Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect was urged to call the sheriff's department at 541-774-6800.
