Apparently they have never had real cops running it and that is against state statutes. I hadn't heard anything official and wondered if I missed the story. Thanks. -- "Tricky494," via e-mail No such luck, Tricky. Medford's candid camera was on a short hiatus but is back in business. The Medford police van, outfitted with Doppler laser-beam technology from Redflex Traffic Systems Inc. to catch speeders, was off the street for nearly three weeks in February and early March to make sure all officers were properly certified, but now it's back in business, said Lt. Bob Hansen, commander of the department's patrol division. He said Redflex has trained six Medford police officers to use the speeder-catching technology. That includes members of the department's patrol division and retired officers who have been rehired solely to work in the speed van. The state's Department of Public Safety Standards and Training offers retired police officer certification for honorably retired officers who worked at least five years in Oregon, maintain training and undergo background checks and pay fees. That's authorized in Oregon Administrative Rule 259-008-0068. Hansen said the department took the van off duty while the retired officers got their certification in order. The van was on duty this week with regular traffic officers, but the certified retirees will be back on the job next week, he said. Send questions by e-mail to [email protected] .
