HEART OF THE WORLD WINS APPLAUSE AT LITHIA PARK ASHLAND, June 10 — Strictly in keeping with mythological ideals and traditions was the weird and beautiful production, "The Heart of the World," as staged in Lithia park last evening by the large company of artists embraced either within the membership or under the tutelage of the Greater Medford club, and presented here to perfection under the joint auspices of that organization and the Civic Improvement Club of this city. Ashland never witnessed an entertainment equaling the multiplicity of spectacular effects as presented by the visitors. The grounds were aglow with electric lights, the sylvan environment and purling brook affording a typical setting for the brilliant outdoor pageant. The Spirit of Poesy, reinforced by the tout ensemble of gods and graces, dryads and nymphs, literally invaded the improvised fairyland, and it needed no metamorphosis of park surroundings to complete a scene which was mythical personified. Musical accompaniments were in keeping with the major attraction, the bands of the twin cities and a skilled orchestra lending an additional charm to an entertainment which was superlative. It is planned to make a like attraction an annual event, and the wish is father to the thought that "The Heart of the World" may prove to be the harbinger of future presentations here at the hands of Medford's pleasing strollers. BLOODED HOG TO IMPROVE LOCAL STOCK Nick Kime of the Griffin Creek district Saturday received from Weatherford, Okla., a full-blooded Poland China four-months-old pig to be used in pig culture in this valley. The pig was shipped by express from J. D. Pike, one of the best breeders of fancy hogs in the southwest. The Poland Chinas are famed for their stockiness and meat heft. They are claimed to be the best shippers of the swine family. The securing of fancy stock in the Rogue River valley indicates that the stock businesses is being put on a substantial basis. Wilbur Ashpole and other stock shippers say this spring the cattle and hog shipments to Portland have been the heaviest in years, notwithstanding that last year practically all the marketable beef was sold to Lux & Miller of San Francisco for meat for the entente.
