Officer injured in shootout sent home from hospital By Peter Wong of the Mail Tribune A Medford police officer shot over the weekend was released from the hospital Thursday, but two witnesses considered material to the case against the alleged shooter remained in jail. The officer, Scott Clauson, was released about noon from Rogue Valley Medical Center, where his right thigh was operated on after the shooting early Saturday. Lt. Tim George said Clauson, who has been with the department since 1995, is expected to recover fully at home and return to his job. The shooting suspect is Moises Sanchez-Llamas, 26, who was indicted Tuesday on two counts of attempted aggravated murder, among other charges, for firing at Clauson and another Medford officer. They returned fire but did not hit the suspect. It was the first shooting of an officer in 66 years. Police obtained warrants Thursday to hold two others already in the Jackson County Jail. "Their testimony is critical to the criminal case against Moises Sanchez-Llamas," George said. "We obtained the material-witness warrants when they gave indications they would not make themselves available for trial proceedings." One witness was Kristi Lee Whitehead, 23, who was arrested Wednesday on two counts of tampering with a witness. Police said she was the woman that Sanchez-Llamas sought in a Columbus Avenue duplex before he reportedly shot at the officers. Police said that Whitehead threatened a 12-year-old girl in an attempt to prevent her from testifying about what she saw. She testified to the grand jury that indicted Sanchez-Llamas. Whitehead lived in the same duplex as the girl and her mother. The other witness was Adan Sanchez-Llamas, 18, of 3141 Table Rock Road, Medford, who police say is the brother of the shooting suspect.
