Now they have us chuck it all into one bin, with all colors of glass going in one designated Dumpster as well. What’s up with that? The beauty of commingled recycling is that instead of making you do all the sorting, a Rube Goldberg-ian system of conveyer belts, magnets, shakers and mechanical fingers at the SP Recycling Corp. plant in Clackamas separates the materials . Motor oil and glass can’t go in the commingled bins because oil despoils other materials and broken glass is dangerous. All colors of glass are crushed together and are currently being used as aggregate in asphalt paving for ongoing expansion at the Valley View Transfer Station. Rogue Disposal, which operates the transfer station and recycling depot on Table Rock Road, collects commingled recycling on most of its regular routes and ships the mix to another Clackamas facility, KB Recycling, a division of Weyerhaeuser, said recycling coordinator Denise Wolgamott.
