Please respond. Thank you. — Shirley H., Medford Most polygraphers in the Medford area specialize in court-ordered testing. Some will do tests for private parties based on the situation, but the exam comes with a hefty price tag. Precision Polygraph and Investigation of Medford charges a minimum of $300 per exam, more if owner Leon Stuphel has to travel. Other local polygraphers had similar rates. Some examiners request half of the fee up front. Stuphel has tested the truthfulness of a teen suspected of stealing from his grandparents, an investor suspected of hiding assets and property owners who failed to disclose information pending a sale. Advertisement Stuphel said he tries to avoid becoming involved in couples’ allegations of infidelity. However, he has performed several such tests this year. Other local polygraphers said they won’t perform lie-detector tests requested by a person’s spouse or significant other. "There’s just too much potential for explosion, and we don’t want to be a part of that," said Robert Lundell of Medford-based Polygraph Associates of Oregon. All Oregon polygraphers are certified by the state Department of Public Safety Standards and Training. Most Rogue Valley polygraphers are former law enforcement officers.
