LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, May 29 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 29, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 29, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Put kicker to use I am retired on a fixed income and, like most people, a little extra money always comes in handy, but this kicker the state is prepared to send to each citizen will do little to improve one's financial picture. However, if that estimated $470 million were put back into the budget, we could easily afford to send eligible high school students to a community college so they might further their education as proposed by State Rep. Tobias Read. His estimate of $25 million to further educate our high school graduates hardly takes a bite out of that $470 million surplus. There is so much we could do with the remaining money. How about a kicker for our decaying infrastructure? Michael Confer Medford Just be kind Driving on Highway 99 going south on May 20, I had a driver tailgating me and honking. I am not sure what I did wrong, as I was in the slow lane, but he tailgated me to the point of endangering myself and my friend. I then moved into the fast lane, and he went speeding by, giving me an obscene gesture in the process which my friend observed. The speeding, tailgating and unsafe driving is getting very bad in Medford. Something is wrong when I feel safer driving in Portland, Seattle or on the grapevine in California than I do driving in Medford. I know a lot of people are out of work, are depressed, very sad, etc. But could we please just do three things: Be kind, Be kind, Be kind! Mary Wright Medford SB 941 is void Senate Bill 941, which was recently signed by the new governor, is void on its face. It’s void because it violates the Second Amendment which, like the next nine, are part of the Constitution. The 10 amendments are therefore inviolate. Let us take another look at the Second Amendment. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The progressives and other liberals quickly point to the third word and gleefully assert that “regulated” can only mean regulated by the state. It has often been said that the Constitution must be interpreted in the English Lexicon of the 18th century. To do otherwise compromises the intent of the Founding Fathers. So what does “regulate” mean to the average Englishman? Regulated means simply highly trained, skilled and diligent in one’s craft. In this case — the militia. Brian A.
