Gutches wrestle-off July 27 The special wrestle-off for a position on the 2000 U.S. Olympic freestyle wrestling team between Medfords Les Gutches and Charles Burton of Bloomington, Ind., has been scheduled for July 27 at North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. It will be a best-of-three series, with the winner qualifying to compete in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. The first session will be at 9 a.m., and the second session is set for 3 p.m. If a third match is required, it will be conducted during the second session, after the athletes have received a rest period. Gutches, the 2000 U.S. nationals freestyle champion at 187.25 pounds, received an extension on his championship series for a position on the U.S. Olympic wrestling team due to injury. He injured his back in training and could not compete at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Dallas in June. Only the 2000 U.S. nationals champions have the right to request an extension because of injury. Burton earned the right to challenge Gutches by winning the 187.25-pound tournament at the trials. He defeated Lee Fullhart of Iowa City, Iowa, in a best-of-three series to qualify for the wrestle-off.     Obituaries | Sports | Business | Classifieds |  Tempo | Prime Times | So Oregon Sites | Outdoor Journal | Subscribe | Contact | Movies | Advertise | Real Estate Showcase | Archive  | Editorials | Letters to the editor | Religion | Wake-up Call | NIE | Cyber Chef | Job Network | So Oregon Weather | WSJ Northwest | Forums | AP Wire | AP Money | F.A.Q. | Awards Ottaway Newspapers, Inc.
