Firefighters teach girding for a disaster If you want to learn how to prepare yourself for the first 72 hours after a disaster, the Medford Fire Department is offering a class on emergency readiness. The class will enable people to help their neighbors and emergency services workers. The class will meet four consecutive Wednesdays, starting Nov. 3, and on the Saturday following those sessions. The Wednesday sessions will be from 6 to 9 p.m., and the Saturday session from 9 a.m. to noon at the downtown campus of Rogue Community College, 202 S. Riverside Ave. No tuition will be charged. The class will help people become part of the Community Emergency Response Team and the Neighborhood Watch program. Training will cover disaster preparedness, basic fire suppression, medical operations, light search and rescue operations, disaster psychology, and team organization. Participants will be taught how to assemble survival packs.
