Kerby couple killed when van rolls over guardrail on I-5 GOLD HILL -- A Kerby couple were killed late Saturday night when their van apparently hit a spot of ice on Interstate 5 and rolled over a guardrail, throwing them from the vehicle. Ivan Otterlifter, 63, and Carlean Janiece Sherk, 55, of Kerby, died at the scene, according to the Oregon State Police. They were heading north in a 1978 Dodge Van about 11:55 p.m. Saturday when they apparently hit the ice at Milepost 38.5, just south of Gold Hill. They lost control of the van and it rolled over the guardrail and rolled down an embankment, flipping end over end. During the course of the crash, both people were ejected from the van, according to police. Neither of them was wearing seat belts. Mail Tribune Copyright   The Mail Tribune 1998, Medford, Oregon USA
