Eight other businesses targeted in the operation refused to sell alcohol to minors, the OLCC reported. All 10 stores and restaurants were being rechecked after selling alcohol to minors in a previous sting. The two businesses that sold to minors working with OLCC inspectors are Guadalajara Family Mexican Restaurant and the Minute Market on South Oakdale Avenue. Both businesses face state sanctions, including fines or liquor-license suspensions. Store employees who sell to minors could be fined as much as $350, according to the OLCC. Businesses that refused to sell alcohol to minors include Barnett Shell Food Mart, India Palace, Haba�eros Mexican Restaurant, China Hut Restaurant and Lounge, Noho’s Hawaiian Cafe, Thrifty Nifty Market, Senor Sam’s Mexican Grill and Riverside 76. During periodic compliance checks, 18- to 20-year-olds volunteering with the OLCC try to buy alcohol to see if businesses are properly checking identification and obeying state law prohibiting alcohol sales to anyone under 21. Underage volunteers carry their own legal identification and are advised not to lie about their age or encourage alcohol sales, according to the OLCC. About 1,000 businesses with liquor licenses statewide are tested annually for compliance by the OLCC.
