Crater adds another threat to already potent lineup CENTRAL POINT - The third-ranked Crater girls basketball team needs more weapons like Bill Gates needs a higher stake in Microsoft. Robertson scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds and played steady defense in helping lead Crater to a 73-40 romp past Grants Pass. "She's been playing pretty well lately," said Crater coach David Heard. "She not only scored well but she rebounded and played good defense tonight. This was probably her best game of the season." Pool and Denson added their usual stellar outputs in a game that was blown open with a 30-8 surge in the second quarter. Denson posted 16 of her game-high 20 points and 13 of her 18 rebounds in the first half, while Pool had 12 of her 17 points in that same span and finished with nine assists. "We forced a lot of turnovers in that second quarter and we shot the ball pretty well," said Heard. The Comets drained four of their eight 3-pointers in the second quarter, with Sarah Yager knocking down two while Pool and Robertson each had one. Crater, which opened the game with a 15-0 run, improved to 18-1 overall and 9-0 in the Southern Oregon Conference. Grants Pass dropped to 4-5 in SOC play. Megan Moon paced the Cavers with 13 points. Mellbye hit the first basket in overtime but North was outscored 10-2 the rest of the way. Lee also grabbed 13 rebounds, while Dani Rouhier added nine points and eight boards for Eagle Point (5-13, 2-7 SOC). North Medford was without wing Brittany Hodges due to a sprained ankle, while a strained knee forced Eagles' post Ashley Curtis to miss the contest.
