Not only does it lend a different perspective from the usual writers and freelancers, but it affords the opportunity for nonprofessional writers to see their work in print and to share their thoughts and experiences with others.  Seriously, with all that's going on in the world, this is what he has to complain about? The dude needs to chill! Darlene Ensor, Medford Growing pains? Some 20 years ago, a lot of time and money had gone into the "Southeast Plan." A school, bike paths, a wonderful Main Street concept with living quarters above shops and walkable neighborhoods with connectivity to lots of green spaces, an overall very livable and desirable neighborhood plan within a limited agricultural area south of Cherry Lane. Unfortunately that plan seems to have gone by the wayside, looking at what has sprung up instead in form of a typical subdivision. “The Southeast Plan would compete with downtown Main Street!” we planning commissioners were finally told. (Not that it doesn’t need competition.) Naumes sold their “non-producing” orchard west of North Phoenix road to PRS (Rogue Valley Manor), who in turn planned to extend their golf course pending a conditional use permit. Planning departments know what that means: Golf courses are built because they produce expensive building lots along the way. Do we really want a sea of more Manor-like housing and a sprawling, almost gated community in this lovely valley? Heide Seeman, Medford Circus no fun for animals The Jordan World Circus is in our area. While attending the circus may seem like a fun, harmless activity, I urge people to remember that it is no fun for the animals performing in the show. The USDA has cited Jordan World Circus numerous times for failing to provide proper veterinary care, proper handling, nutritious food and clean water, shelter from the elements, exercise for their animals. They were also cited for inadequate and unsafe enclosures. Jordan reportedly waited a month to seek treatment for a malnourished tiger with a fractured leg, and it forced another sick tiger to perform. Jordan has left its tigers and lions in small travel cages for up to 11 days without exercise. Jordan uses elephants with a history of aggressive behavior. The animals used in circuses are hauled from town to town in railroad cars, many times in blazing heat or freezing cold. The elephants are chained every minute they are not performing. Just recently, Ringling Brothers Circus made the landmark decision to eliminate elephants from their shows. I hope Jordan World Circus, and all others, will do the same. How well has that worked in the past? "If you take out Saddam, Saddam's regime, I guarantee you that it will have enormous positive reverberations on the region. The reverberations of what happens with the collapse of Saddam's regime could very well create an implosion in a neighboring regime like Iran," –– Benjamin Netanyahu. The year: 2002. President Bush manufactured a pretext for a war that killed more than 4,000 American troops, nearly 2,000 contractors and coalition troops, 51,000 Iraqi soldiers and 123,000 Iraqis civilians. It left Iraq devastated and Iran permanently strengthened. The cost of Bibi's & Bush's folly? Over $2 trillion to the U.S. alone. Thank you, no! If the Republicans can't come up with their own ideas, they should stop trying. It's not their strength.
