Greybeck MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 13, 2014 @ 2:00 am Posted Aug. 13, 2014 @ 2:00 am » Social News Robert J. Greybeck passed away in White City, Ore. June 24, 2014. He was born May 14, 1920 in Scalp Level, Pa. to Edward J. and Sylvia Myrtle Greybeck. Bob attended school in Windber, and graduated from Windber High School in 1938. Bob enlisted in the Army Air Corp, where he trained at Kessler Field in Biloxi, Miss. and in Lubbock, Texas where he met the love of his life, Nell R. Snow of Abilene, Texas who was a student of Texas Tech. They were married in Dalhart, Texas February 1, 1943. After advanced training in San Diego he was stationed at Tarrant Field, Ft. Worth, Texas as a flight Engineer on B24 bombers. In November 1945 after WWII he was discharged in Witchita Falls, Texas. Shortly after returning to Pa. he enrolled at the University of Pittsburg as a Mining Engineer and passed the State Board as a Professional Engineer and Certified Land Surveyor. He holds a BS degree in Coal Mine Engineering. After 36 years of management of underground coal mining in Ky., Pa., W.Va., and Southern Ill., he worked in mine subsidence in the Commonwealth of Pa. He retired in 1986 and enjoyed 6 years on their farm in Hollsopple, Pa. before moving to Medford, Ore. He and his wife visited Hawaii and traveled in their motorhome to 49 United States, 7 Canadian Provinces, and 3 states in Mexico. Bob is survived by Nell R. of Medford; daughter, Sylvia Lu Burns (Rob) of Seattle, Wash.; son, Robert J. Jr. (Margo) of Kennewick, Wash.; son, James D. of Reno, Nev.; granddaughters, Robin Burns (Keith) Morey of Gaston, Ore., NeNe Burns (Rob) Norberg of Bend, Ore., Sarah Greybeck (Aaron) Kensley, Lillian Greybeck, of Kennewick, Wash.; one grandson, Zenio (Lisa) Viola; two great-grandsons, Christopher Morey of Seattle, Wash. and Sean Viola of Charleston, N.C.; two nephews, Ed Greybeck III (Sylvia) of Pleasanton, Calif. and James Greybeck (Carlota), of Pluegerville, Texas; a niece Barbara Greybeck of Huntsville, Texas; and many Snow children nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Sylvia Greybeck; brother, Edward II; sister, Margaret Matthews; and infant son, Charles. The church was Bob's love of life until deafness and feebleness curtailed his activities. He and Nell served as scout leaders for a combined 65 years in Pa., Ky., W.Va., and Oregon. He was overjoyed by teaching adolescent boys in Sunday school and was ordained a Deacon in the historical Mt. Washington Presbyterian Church in Farmington, Pa. He was presently a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Medford, Ore. He also was active with Masonic affiliations for over 64 years. A committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2014 at the Eagle Point National Cemetery. A reception will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Greybeck home following the service.
