Tyler Jordan Rossiter, 25, of the 3200 block of Antelope Road, entered not-guilty pleas Wednesday in Jackson County Circuit Court to a host of assault and reckless driving charges related to an attempted traffic stop June 25. A Jackson County sheriff's deputy tried to pull Rossiter over for an inoperable brake light when Rossiter drove away, reaching speeds of 85 to 90 mph on Modoc Road and Highway 234, according to a probable cause affidavit. Rossiter allegedly drove with a passenger through two stop signs at approximately 40 mph and began passing vehicles on the shoulder of Highway 62. To avoid spike strips, he allegedly drove into oncoming traffic and struck a Dodge Neon head-on that had three people inside, the affidavit said. One of the Neon occupants suffered a large bump to her forehead and scrapes from the vehicle's air bag going off, the affidavit said. After the collision, Rossiter allegedly got out of his vehicle and began running through an open field. The deputy caught him and took him into custody. Rossiter faces charges of third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, two counts of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, four counts of recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He has a pre-trial conference hearing set for July 18. At the time of his arrest, Rossiter was wanted on a parole violation for a previous first-degree burglary conviction and was driving with a suspended license. Earlier this year, he was convicted of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and reckless driving after he sped away from a traffic stop — running through stop signs, speeding and making dangerous turns. He drove down a dead-end street and ran from the vehicle, but was tracked and caught by a police dog, according to an affidavit from the case. Other previous convictions include possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance in 2010, first-degree burglary and first-degree theft in 2011 and second-degree theft and possession of heroin in 2015.
