Child safe after alleged murder-suicide attempt By Nick Morgan of the Mail Tribune Feb 08, 2019 07:10 PM A A A child was hospitalized and a Rogue River woman is in jail after an incident police say was a murder-suicide attempt. Kyla Kathleen Duncan, 49, was arrested Friday on two felony counts of attempted murder after allegedly attempting to poison herself and a child in with carbon monoxide, according to Jackson County Sheriff's Office release. A child has been released to family members Friday after receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. The child's identity, age and relationship to Duncan — if any — have not yet been released. Sheriff’s Deputy Noah Strohmeyer said that investigators are just starting to piece together what happened. “The investigation has a long way to go,” Strohmeyer said. At just after 10 a.m., Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon got a call of a woman attempting to commit suicide in a vehicle in the 7000 block of Pleasant Creek Road. The caller witnessed a “young child” in the vehicle with Duncan, who allegedly fled the scene — leading to a search involving sheriff’s deputies, Oregon State Police and Rogue River police. It’s not immediately known when or where they found Duncan Friday. Duncan is lodged in Jackson County Jail on $200,000 bail. Jackson County Circuit Court records show that Duncan has a prior arson conviction stemming from a March 2006 incident in the 3500 block of Dodson Road in Medford, in which she was ordered to repay damages in the six figures.
