"This is my third," she says. "I knew this would be the one I would stay with as long as I am working. I felt there was enough local talent in the community to support it, and there is. We've steadily presented dance concerts each year and welcomed new dancers who've come to the area to work with us." Moment in Time will celebrate its 20th anniversary with "Viejo con Nuevo," a dance and music performance to be presented at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 25, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Oak Street Dance Studio, 1287 Oak St., Ashland. Tickets cost $15, $10 for ages 14 and younger, and can be purchased at Paddington Station, 125 E. Main St., or online at mitdance.brownpapertickets.com . Tickets can be purchased at the door, if available. Schrodt’s inspiration for the show draws from her studies with Maria Benitez, a well-known flamenco dancer from Santa Fe, N.M. "Viejo con Neuvo" will feature two of Schrodt's new modern dances and a solo dance choreographed by Courtney Coughlin. Portland dancer Elena Villa will perform four traditional flamenco dances, and flamenco guitarist Grant Ruiz will accompany the dancers. "I studied with Benitez while living in New Mexico," Schrodt says. "And Elena brings nearly 30 years of flamenco dance experience to the show." Another four modern dances will be included in the program. One features music from local singer and songwriter Alice DiMicele's new album, "Swim." A music video for DiMicele's song "This Love" features dancers from Moment in Time. Along with artistic director and choreographer Schrodt, Moment in Time includes dancers Joyce Galvin, Courtney Coughlin and Shawn Nasralla. "Courtney is a U.S. Presidential Scholar who came here from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.," Schrodt says. "Shawn came from the University of Minnesota, and Joyce has been with me for 18 years. She danced summer stock while living in Cape Cod. The last five years there have been more new dancers coming to the area to work with us." Schrodt came to Ashland in 1984 to teach in the dance program at Southern Oregon University, still Southern Oregon Stage College at that time. The late dancer, choreographer and theater producer Jim Giancarlo was one of her peers. After the program was cut from the SOU curriculum, they both went on to start their own companies, hence the Oregon Cabaret Theatre and Moment in Time Dance Company. "Some of the dancers I've trained have gone on to work at professional dance companies in larger cities," Schrodt says. "I have several who are working in New York City right now. One dancer, Stephanie Smith, moved to Vienna after being in our company and has consistently worked there since."
