Construction will begin at 10 p.m. Friday and continue through Monday morning as crews pave new roadways behind Home Depot and La-Z-Boy. North Phoenix will be closed near Arrowhead Ranch, but all businesses can still be accessed from the southeast end off Fern Valley Road. All road connections should be open by Monday morning, said Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Gary Leaming. "A little bit of rain in the forecast has the contractor a little bit concerned, but I think they'll be able to work through it," he said. Crews will pave a new route called Grove Road connecting Fern Valley and North Phoenix roads and will turn on a new traffic signal behind Home Depot. Then they will open a new temporary northbound Interstate 5 on-ramp using Grove Road. Rerouting traffic allows crews to begin the eastside approach to the new Fern Valley bridge over I-5. This traffic pattern is expected to be in operation until later this year when the new interstate bridge opens, along with the northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp. Hamilton Construction of Springfield is the prime contractor on the project. Once the new bridge over the interstate is in use, crews can demolish the existing structure and start working on the ramp at the south side, Leaming said. The entire project, which includes a diverging diamond configuration, is expected to be complete by September 2016. "There's a lot going on this year in the project," Leaming said. "This is the first big traffic change on the east side. Contractors are excited about the possibilities of the next phases."    By Staff reports MailTribune.com By Staff reports Posted Mar. 18, 2015 at 5:46 PM Updated Mar 20, 2015 at 10:02 AM » Comment or view comments   Reader Reaction »  STAY INFORMED   Email NewsLetter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
