Schools seek volunteers for student presentations Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 26, 2016 at 4:53 PM Posted May. 26, 2016 at 4:53 PM » Social News Junior Achievement is looking for about 150 community volunteers to help grade senior presentations Thursday and Friday, June 2-3, at North and South Medford high schools. The presentations are the culmination of students’ senior projects, which are a graduation requirement and include about 40 hours of hands-on experience and a research paper. Projects this year range from providing feminine supply kits for women living in Third World countries to building a rifle. “We can all remember our teenage years and how nerve-wracking it was to create a speech and do public speaking, so it’s important to support and praise these students for what they’ve done,” said Deanna Wilson, the district director of Junior Achievement. Junior Achievement aims at having 100 volunteers per school per day, Wilson said, adding that past volunteers have called the experience “fun” and “inspiring.” Check-in begins at 12:30 p.m. both days. Upon arrival, volunteers are escorted to classrooms, where a lead judge who is a staff member will provide instructions on the grading rubric. Presentations are about 8 minutes long and will run from about 12:45 to 3:30 p.m. No preparation or experience is required, and a lunch buffet will be provided by the schools’ culinary classes.
