Main St.,Medford, at the triangle where Sixth and Main streets merge together. One of my coworkers, who also happens to live in my apartment complex, has long raved about the restaurant for a quick vegetable-laden dish, so I took him to lunch to see for myself. As a starter, we went with one of the restaurant's specials, the chicken lettuce wraps ($7.95), with iceberg lettuce, rice noodle crisps and finely diced chicken with onions and scallions. It's a simple dish, but they did everything right. The chicken was fresh and juicy, the lettuce was crisp, and for those seeking a little extra heat, our server brought out a selection of chili sauces. We ordered off the lunch menu, and each entree included a crispy egg roll with sweet chili sauce, our choice of fried or steamed rice, and a side salad consisting of iceberg lettuce, radicchio, carrots and tomato. My coworker went for the Pad Kra Pow with chicken ($8.95), which included stir fried onions, garlic, chili, bell peppers, basil leaves and bamboo shoots in a savory sauce. When asked how spicy he'd like his dish, my coworker opted for "very spicy," ensuring that my sample was limited to the small bite I could handle. The chicken was well prepared, and I tasted plenty of basil and other savory flavors that weren't heat, although there was plenty of that too. I'd consider ordering it next time, albeit at a lower level of spicy. I went for their Egg Plant dish with chicken ($8.95) with a "medium" level of spicy. The egg plant was nicely sauteed with onions, basil leaves, bell peppers and garlic. Even at "medium," the spice level was a little more intense than I was expecting. That said, there was great garlic and basil flavor, and I'll order it the same way next time I'm seeking a bit of a kick. Gripes are few, and have nothing to do with food or service. In fact, all I've got is the dining area's less-than-fashionable wood paneling. That said, everything feels clean and tidy inside. It's easy to see how the spot has continued for the past 14 years.
