Authorities declined to identify their prime suspect, although they noted that the man has been arrested on similar charges several times, only to be released from jail. Officers believe that the thief stakes out parking lots, then moves quickly to smash windows and grab things stashed inside vehicles, Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. The thefts have been scattered around town, police reports show. Items taken include cash, compact discs, cell phones, purses and wallets. Vehicles often receive hundreds of dollars in damage, police reported. Police ask that people keep an eye out for anyone suspicious loitering in parking lots and notify police if they see anything unusual. Moran also reminds people to lock their cars and put valuables in the trunk. "That’s more safe than just tucking something out of sight in the passenger compartment," he said.
