CRIME Nothing stolen in rash of Ashland car break-ins Comment By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil Posted May. 24, 2016 at 2:31 PM By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Follow @@RyanPfeil Posted May. 24, 2016 at 2:31 PM » Social News Ashland police are dealing with another round of car break-ins less than a week after they arrested someone allegedly connected to a previous spree. Eleven break-ins were reported between 3:23 and 4:19 a.m. Tuesday along Grant and Chestnut streets, Scenic Drive and Greenbriar Place — all streets near Ashland Community Hospital, although Deputy Chief Warren Hensman said no property was reported stolen. Police said all the vehicles had been left unlocked, and someone rummaged through them. Police said they have no suspect descriptions or video surveillance. "It's not uncommon. A couple times a year, this does happen," Hensman said. Willie Ray Williams, 29, has been in the Jackson County Jail since May 19 on a variety of theft and drug-related charges following an earlier rash of Ashland car break-ins. Information in that case reportedly led police to the Relax Inn in Ashland, where Williams had been staying. Police said they recovered stolen property, methamphetamine and cocaine from the room. On Tuesday, Williams' bail was set at $80,000. "I don't recall two sprees back to back with one guy definitely in custody," Hensman said. Vehicle break-ins have been commonplace in Southern Oregon this year. In February, Medford police saw an average of four break-ins a day, with 247 reported between New Year's Day and the end of February. Central Point also got slammed in mid-February, with 30 reported over the course of just a few hours. Anyone with information about the Ashland break-ins is asked to contact Ashland police at 541-552-2333 or [email protected] . "We're just trying to do everything we possibly can," Hensman said. "We will definitely be taking a close look at this and see what we come up with." Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected]. Follow him at www.twitter.com/ryanpfeil .
