TEHAMA/TRINITY COUNTIES, Calif. — David Ura, a hiker from Central Point, has been reported missing after starting his hike on the Bigfoot Trail in Tehama and Trinity counties. Ura, 63, and his family's dog and hiking partner, Kingsley, began hiking the trail after being dropped off by his wife and daughter at the Ides Cove trailhead in far western Tehama County on June 15. The trailhead is about 30 miles southwest of Red Bluff. The duo were expected to meet David's son, AJ, and daughter, May, about 40 miles north, in Hayfork, California, on Thursday, June 21. The two never arrived, according to May, who spoke with the local U.S. Forest Service ranger on duty Thursday. "It's been about four days, officially," May told KTVL-TV. "He's now on the missing persons list as a missing person for the Tehama County [Sheriff's Office]." According to May, TCSO has been keeping the family updated daily. "My dad is the type of person to do anything in his power to make sure he is kind of known while he's camping and ... hiking," May said. May and her dad, David, have both been longtime hikers. May says her father has been hiking and backpacking since he was young and has done various trails and difficulties, including portions of the Pacific Crest Trail and trails near Diamond Lake and Crater Lake. David has never hiked the Bigfoot Trail before. May said both David and Kingsley are very experienced hikers and they've never gone missing or been late to a checkpoint before.
