Dennis was born on July 18, 1937 in Glendale, Calif. to Gerald S. and Florence E. (Kincaid) von Ting. His childhood was spent in many locations until settling in Medford, Ore. He attended Medford Senior High School, class of 1955, and then joined the Navy in that same year. After boot camp in San Diego, Calif. he was stationed in San Francisco, Calif. where he met and married Diane Adrian Doyle in 1957. Dennis was trained and worked in electronics and nuclear power. He served on the USS Keywadin (ATA-213), USS Bashaw (SS-241), USS Begor (APD-127), and USS Whetstone (LSD-25). After serving 9 years, he then went on to work at a private shipyard and finally at Mare Island, in Vallejo, Calif. until 1980. While in the Navy, in 1958 son Dennis II was born in San Francisco, in 1960 daughter Donna was born at the Chelsea Naval Hospital in Mass., and in 1963, daughter Debra was born in Vallejo. In 1983, Dennis and Diane returned to Medford, OR and settled in Central Point, Ore. for 20 years, then moved to Eagle, Idaho in 2003. For all of his life, he has been an avid reader, studied the Bible, religions, U.S. history, and world history at great lengths. He loved to garden, cook, bake bread, and build model ships and miniature houses. He had such patience! He had a great passion for genealogy and loved camping, bowling and golfing with the family. From 1994-2002, Dennis and Diane were the owners of Mon Desir in Central Point, Ore. Dennis was a proud member of the Clan Kincaid of Scotland and The American Legion of Eagle and was also proud to have served his country in the U.S. Navy. Dennis had such a great sense of humor throughout his illness, and the strength of God to see him through it. Dennis is survived by Diane of 58 years together; one son, Dennis II of Vacaville, Calif.; two daughters Donna L. Knauss of Brookings, Ore. and Debra E. Lintao of Fairfield, Calif.; a sister, Sharon Severson; a nephew, Derek Severson; an aunt, June Tungate; and cousins, John Tungate and Carol Boughton. There are 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and one more to come. He loved all of his family very much. A Celebration of Life graveside service and inurnment will be held on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 10 am at Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford, Ore. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Idaho Humane Society or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the caring group at United Hospice who traveled this road with Dennis.
