Five COVID deaths reported over the weekend in Southern Oregon By Mail Tribune staff Updated: Nov 15, 2021 03:58 PM A A State and local health officials recorded two new coronavirus related deaths in Jackson County and three new deaths in Josephine County between Friday and Sunday. The new Southern Oregon deaths were among 53 COVID-19 deaths reported across the state. The new deaths bring local coronavirus death tolls in Jackson County to 341, and neighboring Josephine County death toll to 217, according to an Oregon Health Authority report generated Monday. Details about the fatalities such as the patients’ ages was not released as of Monday afternoon. Health officials separately recorded 79 new COVID-19 cases in Jackson County and 56 new cases in Josephine County over the weekend. The new cases bring Jackson County’s caseload to 24,182 and Josephine County’s caseload to 9,904. As of Monday, there were 48 coronavirus patients in Oregon’s hospital region No. 5, comprised of hospitals in Jackson and Josephine counties, according to Oregon Health Authority data. The number is a slight increase from the 43 patients in the hospital Saturday, but still below any point from the summer surge after July 27.
