The city administrator's office has proposed cutting the council's scheduled trips to the League of Oregon Cities conference to reduce overall costs by about $10,000. Tuesday's regular council meeting is expected to see action on two resolutions intended to streamline the permitting process for motion-picture production within the city limits. Under a 1984 resolution, the city's municipal code was amended to require a $150 annual fee from all film producers operating in the city and special use permits starting at $25 for productions filming after 8 p.m. or on city property, among other criteria. The first of the new resolutions, which passed a first reading at the council's Feb. 17 meeting, would require permits only for film productions making exclusive use of city property. The second resolution would establish a fee schedule based on the number of crew members and shooting days in the city, among other criteria. Further discussion is also expected regarding the construction of a new competition-sized pool in cooperation with the Ashland YMCA. The new pool would  fill the gap left by the pending closure of the pool at Southern Oregon University's McNeal Pavilion, which is set to undergo remodeling.  By Thomas Moriarty MailTribune.com By Thomas Moriarty Posted Mar. 1, 2015 at 12:10 PM » Comment or view comments   Reader Reaction »  STAY INFORMED   Email NewsLetter   Sign Up Today   Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
