For the rest of you, it’s time to get into the habit or pay the price. Through June 6, Oregon police agencies will take part in the national "Click It or Ticket" program. As you might guess, officers plan to ticket any motorist who does not properly use a seat belt, child safety seat or other type of safety restraint. The tickets cost $94. The state Department of Transportation says officers will pay special attention to increasing booster seat use, and provide awareness of a new law that prohibits minors under the age of 18 from riding in the open bed of a pickup. State law requires motorists to wear seat belts. Kids younger than 4 years old or weighing less than 40 pounds must be restrained in child seats. Kids older than 4 or those weighing more than 40 pounds must use booster seats until they turn 6 and weigh at least 60 pounds.
