Susan Marie Garvin, 51, of the 6200 block of Old Stage Road outside Central Point, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, three counts of first-degree aggravated theft, two counts of first-degree forgery, misapplication of entrusted property and obtaining execution of documents by deception. She is the daughter of the alleged victim, Lucille Carriker, who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and needs daily care. Susan Garvin had been assigned guardianship and power of attorney over her mother, according to an affidavit filed by Medford police. Dana Garvin, 54, also of the 6200 block of Old Stage Road, has been indicted on two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment and three counts of first-degree aggravated theft. Susan and Dana Garvin pleaded not guilty Monday to all the charges. They each have pre-trial conference hearings set in Jackson County Circuit Court on Sept. 28, according to court documents. According to the affidavit, the couple took more than $95,000 from the alleged victim between July 2013 and April of this year and used the money for their own personal use and gain. The Garvins had shared ownership in a house with Lucille Carriker and her deceased husband, Wesley Carriker, the affidavit said. The Garvins allegedly filed quitclaim deed documents concerning the house with the Jackson County Recorder's Office. The documents had the forged signature of Wesley Carriker, the affidavit said. A quitclaim deed is a real estate legal document used to transfer property rights, often between family members. Susan Garvin is suspected of taking a notary stamp from a co-worker's desk to notarize the quitclaim deed documents, the affidavit said. Neither Susan nor Dana Garvin have faced any other criminal charges in Oregon in at least the past five years, according to a check of circuit court records statewide.
