Fire officials said they expect operations to burn away potential fuel from around the Buckskin fire , burning about 10 miles southwest of Cave Junction, to be complete sometime in the next two days. What National Weather Service meteorologists are anticipating to be the hottest temperatures of the year for many spots around the region are expected to follow on Friday and into the weekend. Triple-digit temperatures are expected in Cave Junction, with a predicted Friday high of 105, followed by 101 Saturday and 99 Sunday, according to the Weather Service website. That will mean a significant drying trend and plunge in humidity levels on the fire's front lines.  That said, fire officials are confident the lines crews have set around the fire perimeter will continue to hold, and crews remain on watch to make quick work of new burns in case they flare up. "Everything is going really well," said fire spokeswoman Pam Sichting. "We are feeling pretty good about the work that's been done." "There'll be no fuels to be consumed. It'll just fall down flat on its face." The lightning-sparked fire that started June 11 has grown to 4,843 acres, a surge in acreage that's mostly due to weekend burnout operations. There are 584 people working on the fire, including 10 hand crews, along with three dozers, six engines, 10 water tenders and and 11 helicopters. Smoke is expected to continue drifting to the south and east, to several northern California communities and O' Brien, according to the Oregon Smoke Information blog.  A news release from the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest says the fire is 30 percent contained. The fire's eastern flank is fully lined, and crews are nearing completion of lines on the blaze's southern flank. Officials continue to extinguish burning materials 300 feet inside portions of the lines.  The western flank has remained quiet and cool, though crews are keeping an eye on it.  "We are prepared just in case something comes up," Sichting said.  Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected] .
