Unlike the reflective lane markers, these blue reflectors are not mounted in a hole or on a flap. They’re to the side of a traffic lane but don’t line up with the side of the lane, the intersection or anything else that’s obvious to me. Who installed these blue reflectors and what is their purpose? — Steven C., Medford.   What a mystery you’ve uncovered, Steven. We’d like to tell you the blue reflectors help orient alien spacecraft or are part of some NSA secret code. But as you know, the professionals at Since You Asked headquarters always tell the truth. And since we are professionals, we’ll have to admit that we’ve been asked this question before so the answer came pretty readily. First of all, the city of Medford installs the blue reflectors. And, drum roll please, the blue reflectors are installed to let the fire department know where a fire hydrant is located. Just imagine driving down a street at night in a fire truck. Those blue reflectors stand out and show the way to the nearest fire hydrant. Nice trick, don’t you agree? We’re happy to solve this little mystery for you, Steven.
