At 12:31 p.m., Oregon State Police received a complaint about Gabrielle Rena Suissa, of Rockville, Calif., heading north on Interstate 5 through Medford. A trooper parked near milepost 34 spotted the vehicle, a Dodge Avenger. When the vehicle appeared, sprinting past at about 88 mph, the trooper gave chase. The woman didn’t pull over or decelerate, but instead increased her speed to more than 100 mph, police said. The trooper kept chasing the fleeing vehicle for six miles until they reached a highway work zone near milepost 40. At that point, Suissa nearly ran a motorcycle off the road, police said. The trooper slowed down but continued to drive north in case he saw the vehicle pulled over or parked in the work zone. Suissa was spotted again by troopers at milepost 56. Police deployed spike strips in an attempt to deflate the vehicle’s tires, but Suissa avoided them and again sped up to more than 100 mph, OSP reported. Troopers gave chase, pursuing as she continued to drive recklessly at high speeds, passing other vehicles on both shoulders, police said. At milepost 70, Suissa had to slow down to about 35 mph because of two commercial trucks occupying both lanes. Troopers used a maneuver that caused the vehicle to spin out. It came to a stop on a curb near the end of a freeway ramp. Police arrested Suissa at 1:26 p.m., nearly an hour after receiving the original complaint. She was lodged in the Jack­son County Jail on charges of attempting to elude police in a vehicle, reckless driving and recklessly endangering another person, jail records show. Her bail is set at $18,000.
