Barry, playing in the junior boys 16-17 division, carded a 67 on Monday and finished the tournament seven strokes ahead of his nearest competitor. Jay Kirkwood of Grants Pass took third with a 147. Two other local boy players, Christian Bernard and Matt Spivey, both of Rogue Valley, won their divisions. Bernard’s 76-78—154 was best in the intermediate boys division (12-13), and Spivey shot 48-49—97 to win the pee wee boys class (8-11). Grants Pass’ Justine Hix earned medalist honors in the girls 15-17 class with a 10-over 154. Advertisement Elaina Graham of Eagle Point shot a 155 to finish second, and Ashland’s Stephanie Johns wound up third, also with a 155. Abbie Perkins of Bear Creek won the intermediate girls (12-14) with a 99-94—193, and Aubrie Street took the pee wee girls (8-11) at 71-62—133. Legion Baseball CENTRAL POINT COMETS 12-5, ASHLAND PILOTS 6-3 — At Ashland, Jeff Weiss and Tyler Davis both smacked solo home runs in Game 1 of an Area 4 doubleheader sweep for Central Point. Weiss ripped his third homer of the season in the third inning and Davis followed suit in the fifth for his first on the year. Josh Surgeon went 2-for-4 with a game-high four RBIs, Weiss was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Davis and Tyler Schmidt each had two hits. Griff Sollinger paced the Ashland attack with a pair of hits. In the nightcap, Chris Thomas scattered four hits and struck out seven to record the complete-game victory. Chuckie Grabowski, Schmidt and Davis each had two hits apiece. The Comets (20-13, 15-7 Area 4) closes out the regular season today with a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader at Eagle Point. Central Point needs to win one of the games to secure second place and a playoff berth. An Eagle Point sweep gives South Medford the No. 2 seed. Little League Baseball 11-12-YEAR-OLD TOURNAMENT — At Gresham, Cody James and Colin Sowers each belted their third home runs of the tournament as Medford American Blue cruised to an 11-1 victory over Rogue River in four innings. James led off the bottom of the first with a solo shot and Sowers followed three batters later with a three-run blast. Philip Jovanovic’s RBI single in the fourth ended the game due to the 10-run mercy rule. Michael Bradshaw gave up four hits in the complete-game victory. Sowers finished 3-for-3 with five RBIs, while James and Jovanovic each had two hits. Medford, one of four teams left in the double-elimination tournament, continues play today at 5 p.m. against West Salem.
