Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 15, 2015 at 1:46 PM Posted May. 15, 2015 at 1:46 PM » Social News Local report A man stopped on suspicion of drunk driving is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly struggling with one Medford police officer and trying to burn another with a lighter while resisting arrest. Jason Allen Kenyon, a 33-year-old Bend resident who previously lived in Grants Pass, pleaded not guilty Friday to a felony charge of assaulting a public safety officer plus misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, resisting arrest and reckless driving. He has a pre-trial conference set for June 15 in Jackson County Circuit Court. Kenyon was stopped by police after he was allegedly seen driving recklessly on Manzanita Street in Medford. He appeared to be intoxicated and consented to field sobriety tests, according to an affidavit. But when police told him he was under arrest, Kenyon allegedly resisted by pulling away and grabbing one police officer. He then allegedly used a lighter to try and burn a second officer, the affidavit said. The first officer sustained cuts and abrasions. The charge of assaulting a public safety officer is related to the injuries suffered by that officer, according to court documents. In 2011, Kenyon was convicted for criminal driving while his driver's license was suspended.
