Kern bankruptcy plan set for hearing A hearing on Kern Family Services' bankruptcy reorganization plan has been scheduled for April 9 in Medford. The troubled funeral and burial company, which operates the Perl group in Medford and similar businesses in Grants Pass, has filed an updated disclosure statement and reorganization plan in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. The plan calls for the sale of the Medford and Grants Pass businesses to cover $5.1 million missing from a trust fund for prepaid funeral and burial services. About 3,600 people paid into the fund; Kern officials have vowed that those customers will not lose any money in the bankruptcy. Personal property owned by the Kern family has been secured by the state to further insure that customers' interests are protected. The hearing begins at 9:30 a.m. in U.S. District Court at 310 W. Sixth St. (the corner of Sixth and North Holly streets) in Medford. To this point, the case has been heard in Eugene, but the involved parties agreed to hold this hearing in Medford because most of the customers live in the Rogue Valley.
