He spent his life in service of his family, friends, and country. George was born on June 19, 1933 - the fifth of five children of Soren Marinus and Ruby Marie Christensen of Gold Hill, Oregon. He attended Gold Hill High School, Oregon Agricultural College (now Oregon State), and later earned a masters degree in Systems Integration at the University of Southern California. He met his wife of 60 years, Beverly Jean Trent, at OAC. They were married on September 11, 1954 shortly after George was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant with the U.S. Army. George and Beverly served their country from 1955 to 1981 when he retired with the rank of Colonel. During his service, George flew fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. He was a flight instructor a logistics manager, and flew pilot rescue missions during the Viet Nam war. Later he was a Project Manager, responsible for the development of the Apache helicopter and the Aquila remote piloted vehicle. In 1958 George and Beverly welcomed their first child, Karen Jean. And in 1962 they had a son named John Marinus. The following years saw the family move to Stuttgart West Germany in 1963 and then to various U.S. posts as George served in Korea and Viet Nam. In 1981, George and Beverly retired to the Rogue Valley and built their first home in Jacksonville where they lived for 10 years. While there, George was active in the local Lions chapter and Beverly enjoyed the local Garden Club. George also found time for his favorite hobbies – woodworking, fishing, clock repair, and volunteering in the local community. They loved to entertain and the years in Jacksonville were some the happiest times for them. In 1991, George and Beverly moved back to the Christensen family farm on 2nd Avenue in Gold Hill where they built a home overlooking the Rogue River and reveled in the peace of coming back home. In 2000, they joined the Rogue Valley Manor, made many new and lasting friends, and went salmon fishing at Brookings as often as they could. Dad was a brave and gentle man, with vision and determination. His warm and contagious sense of humor was a blessing to many. He will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him. George is survived by his wife Beverly, his sisters Dagmer Chapman and Evalyn Kile, his children Karen and John, his grandchildren Alexandria Marie Reeder (Mark) and Michelle Jean Valvero, and his great grandchildren Macy Mae Reeder and Trent Donald Reeder. A private family internment service will held at Eagle Point National Cemetery on July 17, 2015. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity.
