Fire burns gifts, chars garage A fire that appeared to have been touched off accidentally Monday destroyed some Christmas presents and damaged a garage in Medford. "We think it was human-caused, but we could not pin it down," said Dan Peterson, a Medford Fire Department battalion chief. The fire occurred about 5:15 p.m. at 842 W. 13th St., Unit A, in a detached one-car garage next to the residence of Jeanette Espinosa. Peterson said when firefighters arrived, they found another occupant using a garden hose in an attempt to put out the fire. The first crew that arrived put it out, and 14 firefighters ended up on the scene. No one was injured. He said fire damage was estimated at $1,000, including a garage wall and destruction of or damage to some Christmas presents, clothes, a bench and sewing machine. Peterson said nothing suspicious was found, and firefighters have ruled out electrical and other causes. Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 1999, Medford, Oregon USA
