Pedestrian sting planned Monday in east Medford Police operation will be at Black Oak Drive and Dellwood Avenue Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 7, 2015 at 10:33 AM Posted Aug. 7, 2015 at 10:33 AM » Social News The Medford Police Department will conduct a pedestrian sting from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the intersection of Black Oak Drive and Dellwood Avenue in east Medford. The operation will focus on drivers failing to yield the right of way to pedestrians in the crosswalk. Police will use a decoy pedestrian at the intersection. Potential violations include failure to stop and remain stopped for a pedestrian in a marked or unmarked crosswalk and passing a stopped vehicle at a marked or unmarked crosswalk. Both violations carry a fine of $260. Every intersection, regardless of whether it is marked, is considered a crosswalk, police said. Oregon laws require drivers to stop and remain stopped if a pedestrian is walking in their lane of traffic or the lane adjacent, on both single- and multi-lane roadways. Oregon law also prohibits passing a stopped vehicle at a marked or unmarked crosswalk at an intersection if the vehicle is stopped to permit a pedestrian to cross the roadway.
