Eagles roll to crown in RV meet The Eagle Point wrestling team continued to make its run as the top program in the Rogue Valley. The Eagles used four first-place efforts to push aside Crater and win the team title of the 11-school Rogue Valley Championships at North Medford High on Saturday. Eagle Point won with 365 points to runner-up Crater's 337.5. Phoenix placed third, while Grants Pass and Illinois Valley rounded out the top five at fourth and fifth, respectively. North Medford finished sixth and South Medford seventh. "By no means did we dominate," said Eagle Point coach Brad McBee. "We've got a lot of work to do. It's (Southern Oregon Conference) going to be very competitive this year." It wasn't just the individual titles that helped push Eagle Point over the top. The Eagles used their depth to place 22 wrestlers in the top six and 19 in the top four. "The main thing that really helped us this year is our second men that stepped in for us," said McBee. "When you start talking tournaments such as this or the districts, it's not just the champions that make the difference, it's everyone doing their part." Crater took home five individual titles but couldn't catch the Eagles. At 112 pounds, Eagle Point's J.P. Sheile pinned teammate Farley Holden for the title, while Joe Lewis (119) and Jason Adams (152) also won their weight brackets. At 125, Eagle Point's Andrew Larsen won all four of his matches by pin en route to the title. For Crater, Bryson Gutches (103), Nate Gipson (130), Jeremy McLaughlin (135), Rudy Ramirez (145) and Chris Dearmon (275) grabbed individual titles. Nick Acord (160) and Brian Murphy (171) were winners for Phoenix. Jimmy Ulrey and Rob Folsom were the highest finishers for North Medford, each taking second at 145 and 160, respectively.
