Regalado, Wilson win Golden Glove titles By Kevin Goff TACOMA, Wash. � Salvador Regalado proved that overall records don�t mean much when it comes to the big fights. Regalado, fighting for the Bulldog Boxing Club, won his third Golden Glove event Saturday with a resounding victory in the 119-pound division at the 53rd annual Washington Golden Gloves. The 18-year-old Regalado boasts an 18-15 overall record in his four years with the Bulldogs but improved this year�s mark to 8-2 and is 3-for-3 in Golden Glove tournaments after his win over Seattle�s Beaney Powell. "Salvador�s record doesn�t show how tough of a fighter he is," said Bulldog Boxing coach Joe Pedrojetti. "He�s always fought some really tough kids." Regalado also took home titles in the 1999 and 2000 Oregon Golden Gloves title. Also gaining another Golden Glove title for the Bulldogs was Mike Wilson. Wilson, fighting in the super-heavyweight division, improved his record to 41-9 after a dominating victory over Vincent Zamora of Fairbanks, Alaska. It was the second Golden Glove title for the top-rated super-heavyweight fighter in the U.S. Making it to the finals but coming up short for the Bulldogs were Lionel Leon and Rickey Gallegos. At 125, Leon lost a close decision to Jorge Hernandez of Anchorage, Alaska, while Gallegos was downed by Morris Ray of Fort Lewis, Wash. Gallegos normally fights at 156 but couldn�t make weight, moving him into the 178 title bout. The Bulldogs now prepare for the Oregon Golden Gloves tournament at Portland in three weeks. The top finishers in the Oregon tournament move on to the regionals held in Las Vegas.
