Tago, a 5-foot-9 senior guard, and Schireman, a 6-2 senior guard, were named players of the year, with Tago sharing the honor with Georgetown-bound senior Autumn Baumgartner of Sheldon. South Medford girls coach Tom Cole earned his sixth straight coaching honor, while South Medford boys coach Dennis Murphy earned the boys coaching honor in his 28th and final season at the helm after guiding the Panthers (23-2) to his 18th league crown at 13-1. For the Hawaii-bound Tago, it’s the second straight year she was named conference player of the year and the third year in a row to land on the all-league first team. Tago averaged 17 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists and two steals for the Panthers (22-3), who earned their sixth consecutive undefeated conference title at 14-0. South Medford, which opens the Class 6A state playoffs at home against St. Mary’s Academy at 6 tonight, has won 78 straight league games overall. Baumgartner averaged 24.1 points overall and 23.6 in SWC play to pace Sheldon (19-6), which finished runner-up at 12-2 in league play. Joining Tago and Baumgartner on the SWC first team were South Medford senior Jasmin Falls and junior Lauren Orndoff, North Medford sophomore Maggie Freeman, Roseburg senior Jordan Stotler and Sheldon junior Hope Green-Brooks. Schireman, who has not yet committed to a college, was a repeat first-team selection on the SWC boys list and led the conference in scoring at 17.7 points per game overall and 20.4 in league play. Schireman, who moved back to point guard from shooting guard for this season, also averaged 3.9 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game for North Medford (19-5), which placed third in the SWC at 10-4. Also earning a spot on the SWC boys first team were South Medford seniors Conor Carroll, Josh Washington and Hunter Bradford, North Medford senior Tyren Wolfe and South Eugene senior Josh Bowers.
