But when the senior quarterback did, he got results. Heater completed seven passes, but four went for touchdowns as Grants Pass pounded the Pelicans 37-6 in Southern Oregon Conference football. Klamath Union led 6-0 at the end of the first quarter on a 14-yard Angelo Dearborn TD pass to Daniel Bennett. But the Cavemen got it rolling in the second quarter with an 18-point outburst. Grants Pass went 67 yards in nine plays to tie the game 6-all with 8:48 remaining in the period. A.J. Schmitke burst up the middle from 8 yards out for the touchdown. A blocked punt recovered at the Pelican 18 set up the next score. On the fifth play, Heater hooked up with Kory Mahr for a 12-yard TD pass. Grants Pass struck quickly for its third TD before halftime. After a Wes Lathen interception at the KU 30, Heater found Mahr wide open in the middle of the end zone on the first play for an 18-6 advantage. The Cavemen took the second-half kickoff and marched 58 yards on eight plays for a TD. Schmitke capped the drive with a 1-yard run. Grants Pass sealed the victory when Heater hit Josh McGowan in stride down the sideline, and the senior wide receiver covered 99 yards to give the Cavemen a comfortable 31-6 lead at the 5:14 mark of the third quarter. Heater finished with 257 yards passing, while McGowan caught four passes for 182 yards. Schmitke led the ground attack with 16 carries for 102 yards.
