JOSEPHINE COUNTY Firefighters stop Cave Junction house fire from engulfing wildlands Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Aug. 19, 2015 at 6:13 PM Updated Aug 19, 2015 at 7:48 PM Posted Aug. 19, 2015 at 6:13 PM Updated Aug 19, 2015 at 7:48 PM » Social News Josephine County firefighters ended up enlisting the help of state helicopters Wednesday night to stop a structure fire east of Cave Junction from turning into a major wildfire. According to a news release from the Illinois Valley Fire District, its firefighters — along with personnel from the Oregon Department of Forestry, the U.S. Forest Service and American Medical Response — responded around 4:56 p.m. to a reported structure fire in the 6000 block of Rockydale Road. When they arrived, they discovered a home fully engulfed in flames that had spread from the residence to nearby wildlands. A second alarm brought personnel from Rural-Metro Fire and firefighters were able to knock down the structure fire within an hour. Fire officials reported the wildland portion of the blaze never grew to more than an acre in size, and was contained through the use of two ODF helicopters dropping water on the flames.
