Gambee has headed the family-owned enterprise overseeing Rogue Disposal & Recycling since 1994, leading the firm through a series of environmental and technological transitions. "He's a leader who doesn't simply see an alternate future and suggest a way to get there," said Steve McCandless, executive director the Craterian Theater. "He creates a preferred future and brings it into present reality. He's somebody who puts common welfare in front of self-interest. He's a servant leader who has given endlessly and tirelessly of himself to make our community a better place to live." McCandless presented the award during the chamber's annual awards gathering at Inn at The Commons. He summed up Gambee as one who is daring, yet methodical; deliberate, yet decisive; circumspect, yet innovative; and calculating, yet kind. McCandless first encountered Gambee during the Craterian Theater restoration project. "He's really, really smart," McCandless said. "He's got that rare quality of wisdom so that he can see everything from all angles and navigate through challenging, and sometimes conflicting, interests and find a common good in it all." Gambee has been the president and CEO of Rogue Valley Properties and managing member of Rogue Waste Systems, which operates Rogue Disposal & Recycling, for more than two decades. Gambee was previously a real estate economist and a consultant for Robert Charles Lesser & Co./Hobson & Associates. His community involvement includes chairman for the Jackson County Board of Commissioners Economic Development Advisory Committee, Umpqua Holdings board and Medford/Jackson County Chamber secretary. His board roles range from the Craterian Theater/Collier Center of the Performing Arts and YPO Oregon Evergreen Chapter to the Rogue Gallery and Art Center and Jackson and Josephine County Boys and Girls Club.
