Berryman kicks off re-election bid Mayor Lindsay Berryman has a new vision � another four years as Medford�s top elected official. At noon Wednesday, Berryman kicked off her re-election campaign with a brief address to a crowd of about 20 supporters. "I believe I can provide the leadership to get the results we need," Berryman said. "Let�s move forward together." Relieving traffic congestion and enhancing parks � two top priorities identified in the city�s "visioning" process, prompted by the mayor since her election in 1998 � are key issues Berryman said she plans to continue to tackle. If re-elected this November, Berryman will be the first mayor assigned to a four-year term. Voters approved the change with an amendment to the city charter in 1998. In addition to Berryman, four of the City Council�s eight members are up for re-election. Council President Sal Esquivel, who manages a title company, said he plans to run in November. He said he wants to continue work on the south Medford interchange overhaul, among other projects. Councilman John Michaels, who represents Ward 3, has said he also plans to make another bid for office. Councilmen Curt Bennett, Ward 1, and Bill Moore, Ward 4, said recently they have yet to decide whether they will seek re-election. Dennis Nielsen, a planning commissioner, said he intends to run for Moore�s seat. Mayoral and council candidates have until 5 p.m. Aug. 25 to file for the election.
