They are holding applicants back from getting approved by the state. When are they going to finalize the rules? — Joan, Jacksonville From the perspective of Jackson County officials, uncertainty at the state level is slowing the county's ability to adopt its own local regulations on the growing, processing and selling of medical and recreational marijuana. The Oregon Legislature has been debating, tweaking, passing and rejecting various pieces of marijuana legislation that will impact what regulations can be adopted by local jurisdictions. The Legislature has a short session this year that must wrap up on March 6, according to the Oregon Constitution. Meanwhile, the Jackson County Board of Commissioners — which has been meeting for weeks to hear public testimony and draft local regulations —is scheduled to meet again at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, to hear legislative updates and continue hammering out local regulations. The board is nearing the finishing line, with many regulations drafted. If all goes smoothly at that meeting, the board could consider adoption of an emergency ordinance on local marijuana regulations as early as March 16, according to planning staff updates earlier this week. —Send questions to “Since You Asked,” Mail Tribune Newsroom, P.O.
